📚 Books & Library Architecture

When standalone memos grow or you are creating a structured curriculum or monograph, FlashNote’s Books system delivers a robust hierarchical publishing framework.

1. Why Use Books?

  • Prevent Fragmentation: Memos are great for quick capture, while Books turn ideas into structured knowledge;
  • Multi-Level Hierarchy: Organize content into Volumes, Chapters, and Subsections;
  • Context-Aware Focus: Navigate the overall outline on the left while editing chapters on the right.

2. Key Capabilities

Creating a Book

  1. Click the “Books” icon in the top navigation bar;
  2. Click “New Book”, and set the title (e.g. Modern TypeScript in Depth) and cover description.

Hierarchical Outlines & Drag-and-Drop

  • Volume / Chapter / Section Tree: Nest chapters to arbitrary depth inside your book view;
  • Cascading Reorganization: Drag-and-drop to reorder reading flow. Renaming or moving chapters automatically cascades throughout underlying folder structures and internal cross-references;
  • Automatic Chapter Numerals: Generates standardized volume and chapter headings based on hierarchy without manual numbering hassle.

Publishing & Archiving Matrix

Click “Export Book” at the top right to output manuscripts via production-grade compilation pipelines:

  • Structured Markdown Archive: Bundles all chapters with a master README.md and hierarchical table of contents;
  • Full-Width Formatted TXT: Formats chapter headings with proper indentations, clean punctuation, and page-break separators;
  • EPUB & PDF: Compiles directly into standard EPUB or PDF for offline reading on Kindle, mobile devices, or Apple Books.
