1. TXT Encoding & Chapter Splitting

1.1 Is Text Encoding Detected Automatically?

  • Fully Automatic Smart Detection: BookFun embeds a high-precision encoding detection engine covering UTF-8, GB18030, GBK, BIG5, and Shift-JIS. No manual toggling is necessary;
  • Troubleshooting Tip: If an ancient or corrupted file displays garbled text, it often contains mixed encodings. Open it in a desktop editor (e.g. VSCode) and re-save as “UTF-8” before re-importing.

1.2 Why Does My TXT Book Only Show a Single Chapter?

  • Automatic Chapter Splitting: BookFun automatically extracts common markers like “Chapter X”, “Vol. X”, and “Section X”;
  • Single Chapter Fallback: If an essay or short story lacks standard chapter markers, the app presents it as one continuous chapter to preserve full content without artificial cuts.

2. Cover Scraper Tips: Simplifying Keywords & Switching Engines

  • Simplify Keywords: Many downloaded files include junk tags like [Complete Version], TXT Download, or Author: Name. In the search window, simplify the query to the pure book title (e.g. Three Body) to instantly double your match rate!
  • Switch Search Engines: Didn’t find a high-res cover on Baidu? Switch to the “Bing” tab to access massive publisher-grade covers;
  • Upload from Photo Library: Saved an illustration from Safari? Tap “Upload from Photos”, and BookFun will crop it to the 0.72 golden ratio automatically!

3. Audio Stops on Lock Screen or in Background?

3.1 Check Low Power Mode

  • Inspect Battery Icon: A yellow battery icon indicates iOS “Low Power Mode” is active, which suspends background audio playback;
  • Fix: Go to iPhone Settings → Battery and toggle off “Low Power Mode”.

3.2 Ensure Background App Refresh is Allowed

  • Go to iPhone Settings → BookFun;
  • Verify that “Background App Refresh” is turned on.

3.3 Bluetooth Headphone Disconnection Protection

  • If your Bluetooth headphones run out of battery or go out of range, iOS automatically pauses audio for privacy. Reconnecting resumes playback with one tap.

4. Reading Progress on iPhone Not Syncing to iPad?

  1. Verify Identical Apple ID: Ensure both devices use the same Apple account, with “iCloud Drive” and “BookFun” enabled under Apple ID → iCloud;
  2. Force Handshake via App Relaunch: iOS background sync may occasionally face a brief delay. Swipe up to force-close BookFun on both devices and reopen;
  3. Check Cloud Storage: Ensure your private iCloud storage is not completely full.

5. Local Network Storage (SMB/WebDAV) “Connection Failed”?

  1. Same Wi-Fi Network: Ensure your iPhone is connected to your home Wi-Fi, not cellular data;
  2. Grant “Local Network” Permission: In iPhone Settings → BookFun, ensure the “Local Network” permission toggle is granted;
  3. Verify IP & Ports: Use static local IP addresses (e.g. 192.168.1.100). Default SMB port is 445; WebDAV is typically 5005.

6. Accidentally Deleted a Book? How to Recover It

Tip

Under default settings, BookFun safely preserves reading progress and notes so you never lose your history!

Scenario A: Simply Hidden from Shelf

  1. On the bookshelf, tap the top-right menu icon;
  2. Check “Show Hidden Books”;
  3. If hidden by accident, the book will reappear immediately. Long-press to unhide.

Scenario B: Deleted from Shelf

  • Default Mode (Keep Records): Deleting a book only removes raw files to reclaim storage; progress, bookmarks, and notes are safely retained in the local database;
  • Recovery: Simply re-import the same book file (via AirDrop, Wi-Fi, or cloud drive). BookFun recognizes the file and instantly restores past reading progress, bookmarks, and all highlighted notes!
  • Note: Records are only destroyed if you explicitly enabled “Permanent Deletion” under Settings.

Sluggish Search or Library Scrolling?

  • Go to “System Settings” -> “Storage & Maintenance”;
  • Tap “Rebuild Search Index”. In 1–2 seconds, the database will be re-indexed for lightning-fast search.
